Teaching and research

What are the relationships between laboratories and departments?

The institute is organised into education and research departments of various disciplines, which are responsible for achieving synergy between the two principal missions of the institute: education and research. These six departments coordinate the actions of the joint research units (UMR-CNRS) and teaching units.

The six laboratories are housed on the premises of École Centrale de Lyon and those of other supervisory bodies. The total area of the campus dedicated to research is 19,361 m2.

The six departments are run by department heads who are members of the steering committee. Each department has ties with one or more joint research units. The lecturer-researchers, entrusted with both teaching and research, are members of one department and one research unit. The departments are where the link between teaching and research is elucidated and takes shape.
