Scientific platforms
The research activities proposed by Centrale Lyon are based on first-rate platforms that have benefited in recent years from major investments linked, for example, to the Plan d'investissement d'avenir (PIA) and European funding.
Plateforme macHines tournantes pour la mAîtrise des Risques Environnementaux (Rotating macHines platform for environmental risk management)
The Equipex PHARE is a unique project for research laboratories at international level. Its ambition is to design the rotating machine of the future to control environmental risks. The platform is equipped with an innovative architecture, non-polluting bearings and intelligent on-board systems, enabling it to meet the criteria of ultra-compactness, operation over a wide speed range, while offering robustness to withstand tests under extreme stress.
The project is unique at international level.

Local technology platform focused on micro and nanotechnologies, it brings together the resources and expertise of the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnologies (INL) in the following fields:
- Materials growth,
- Micro and nano manufacturing technologies,
- Bioengineering for healthcare,
- Multiscale characterization from material to device and numerical computation.
IVTV: Engineering and Aging of Living Tissues
The IVTV equipment of excellence project chosen by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, is a unique and large-scale project in Europe, which has been implemented in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, in biology and health.
This project has led to the creation of a platform equipped with innovative tools on the study of human tissue aging. For the first time, a dual scientific approach is being taken in biology and mechanics, with the aim of improving citizens' health through the development of new therapeutic solutions.

Built in 1977, in collaboration with EDF, Centrale Lyon's large atmospheric wind tunnel enables us to study dispersion in the atmospheric boundary layer on reduced-scale models.
Deaf room
Since the early 1980s, two anechoic wind tunnels have been located at the Acoustics Center of the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (LMFA). They are the result of a combination of open-vein wind tunnels and a large-scale anechoic chamber.
Studies carried out in the Acoustics Center wind tunnels focus on aeronautics, land vehicle components or models, or metrological developments in aeroacoustics.
Shared platforms
Centrale Lyon has joined forces with industrial and academic partners to develop and make available cutting-edge technology platforms, financed thanks to substantial public funding, such as:
- Manutech USD: laser platforms
- SuperGrid Institute: high voltage, transmission, energy conversion and direct current
- SURFAB: 3D printing platform, surface treatment and texturing
Other platforms
- Computing center
- Civil engineering and thermo-mechanical analysis platform
- Virtual reality and multi-sensory platform
- Robotics platform
- Ultra-high vacuum tribology platform
Spaces for creativity and innovation
- COOKING LAB: a place for training, experimentation and culinary innovation
- FABLAB: a place to accelerate creativity and innovation through tools and training in rapid prototyping techniques
- SKYLAB: a place bringing together new collaborative workspaces designed to foster creativity and entrepreneurship
Transition Lab
The Transition Lab is a physical and virtual ecosystem that supports the Etablissement's strategy on major transitions for all its missions. The aim of this place, where research, initial and continuing training initiatives converge, is to support socio-economic players in major transitions.
