Human resources strategy HRS4R

Centrale Lyon is committed to a progressive approach to the recruitment, career and mobility of researchers. After signing the European Researcher's Charter and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, Centrale Lyon was awarded the HRS4R label, a guarantee of the quality of its human resources management.

European Researcher's Charter and Code of Conduct for Recruitment

In 2007, Centrale Lyon signed the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers to promote the mobility and careers of researchers in Europe along 4 main lines:

  • The ethical and professional principles: freedom of research, non-discrimination, evaluation...
  • The recruitment: transparency of procedures, judgement on merit, valuing mobility...
  • The working conditions and safety: research environment, career development, gender equality, representativeness...
  • The training: supervision/mentoring, access to training, continuing professional development...

Obtaining the HRS4R label

Centrale Lyon wished to pursue its commitment and obtain the HRS4R label in order to extend its visibility at European and international levels, increase the School's attractiveness and pursue its activity in the European research framework program. Accordingly, in September 2019, the school submitted an application for HRS4R labeling, including an analysis of the existing situation, the identification of margins for progress and a 24-month action plan.

With a view to continuous improvement, the School then carried out the internal evaluation of its HRS4R action plan in July 2022. This has enabled us to identify actions taken, those to be continued and new actions to be implemented over the next three years, in order to make progress in our human resources strategy for researchers. This action plan update was a natural fit with the Quality of Working Life (QWL) approach and the establishment's 2030 strategy.

In 2026, Centrale Lyon will enter the renewal phase of its accreditation, and in the spring will receive the assessors in charge of the on-site visit and the study of the internal review carried out by the establishment.

Under the French presidency of the EU in 2008, the European Commission launched the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R), which calls on every teaching and research institution to:

  • Deploy its human resources management strategy in research,
  • Evolve its practices and get as close as possible to the recommendations set out in the European Charter for Researchers and the Recruitment Code.
