Collège des Hautes Études Lyon Science

Created in 2014, the Collège des Hautes Études Lyon Sciences (Chels) celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024. The Collège des Hautes Études Lyon Sciences draws on the academic excellence of its members in the arts, basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences, agronomic and veterinary sciences, and finally law and management to break down the barriers between knowledge and disciplines, promote the hybridization of skills and prepare for the complexity of today's and tomorrow's world.

The Collège encourages original, hybrid thinking, a source of innovation and creation at the highest international level. It is based on a novel and innovative approach: the cross-fertilization of disciplines, methods and cultures, in close collaboration with local public, economic, social and cultural players. It is based on shared values of excellence, openness, diversity, equal opportunity, entrepreneurship and social and environmental responsibility. It also promotes and supports the commitment of students and staff, with and for society. Finally, it has a social ambition: to bring the best of higher education and research to a diverse public who, tomorrow, will be in a position to define public policies, guide business choices and influence changes in society.

An innovative approach:

  • a cooperative, collegial mode;
  • a hybridization of skills and research-backed training;
  • the cross-fertilization of disciplines methods and cultures.

First-of-its-kind activities:

  • shared modules to enable students from member institutions to take and/or validate one or more courses at another institution;
  • the common course treated in a multidisciplinary way through lectures offered by research professors from member institutions;
  • MOOCs (online courses open to all) and podcasts distributed on the FUN platform on the following themes: "Decision, Complexity, Risks", "The Factory of Progress", "Emotions in Activity[s]", "World Experiences".

Original projects:

  • the creation of an inter-institutional diploma to train students on major transitions (scheduled to open at the start of the 2025 academic year);
  • the creation of continuing education modules in partnership with the Rhône department for elected representatives and staff.

The Collège des Hautes Études Lyon Sciences is founded on the shared values of excellence, openness, diversity, equal opportunity, entrepreneurship and social and environmental responsibility of the 8 establishments representing 8 major brands, in support of public policy development.
