Presentation

A graduate of the Master's degree in materials science of École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and l'Université Claude-Bernard Lyon-I, and agrégé of physical sciences, Julien Scheibert obtained his PhD in physics of condensed matter from the université Paris-VI in 2007. He is currently director of research at CNRS, within the Tribology and Systems Dynamics Laboratory (LTDS). His research topics lie at the interface between physics and mechanics, aiming for a quantitative link between experiments and modeling. His work has successively focused on:

  • human tactile perception and in particular the role of fingerprints in the perception of fine textures,
  • rapid fracture of brittle heterogeneous solid materials
  • slip dynamics of contact interfaces between rough solids.

Julien Scheibert has thus developed recognized expertise in the contact mechanics of dry and rough interfaces, particularly for soft materials such as elastomers.

Research projects

Julien Scheibert conducts a wide range of research into the friction and adhesion of soft contact interfaces (elastomers, human skin). Currently, his main activity consists in developing metainterfaces, whose microstructure is optimized to offer tailor-made friction properties.
