Presentation

A graduate of the École Centrale de Lyon in 2000 and a physicist by training, Juliette Cayer-Barrioz obtained her PhD in 2003, then joined the CNRS at Laboratoire de Tribologie et Dynamique des Systèmes(LTDS, UMR5513) in 2005. She obtained the habilitation à diriger les recherches in 2011. Her research activities focus on the dynamics of lubricated interfaces and integrate surface, topographic and physicochemical phenomena. Its scientific approach is based on the combined use of unique experimental tools, numerical simulation and the application of theoretical models, coupling interface physicochemistry, physics and mechanics, rheology and friction.

Widely involved in the Labex Manutech-Sise from 2011 to 2019 and a member of the CNRS National Committee from 2021 to 2025, she has been editor of Tribology Letters, a leading tribology journal focusing on fundamental mechanisms, since 2017. She is also involved in numerous international collaborations, co-organizing in particular International Nanotribology Forum. She has co-supervised more than 20 theses. She received the international Jost Award in Tribology (2025).
