Stéphane Benayoun

Professeur in materials engineering (CNU 60)STMS/LTDS

Holding a PhD and an accreditation to supervise research in
Material Physics from the University of Poitiers, France, Stephane
Benayoun is Professor at the Department of Materials Science
and Surface Engineering of École Centrale de Lyon. He heads the
Materials Engineering teaching team at École Centrale de Lyon and
the master programme in innovative materials at the University of
Lyon. He teaches Materials Science, including courses on surface
and coating engineering, plasticity, material and process selection
in mechanical design. After a PhD addressing the elaboration of
oxides superconducting films by ion beam deposition, he started
his academic career at École nationale supérieure d’arts et métiers
(ENSAM) d’Angers, France, where he studied the scratch behaviour
of materials, adhesion and surface treatment. Since 2005, he works
at the Tribology and System Dynamics Laboratory (LTDS) within
the French CNRS joint Research Unit no. 5513 at École Centrale
de Lyon. His fields of active research are the mechanical behaviour
of deposited film, adhesion, tribology, elementary mechanisms of
abrasion (indentation, scratching), wetting and laser structuration.
He has co-authored more than thirty articles in international scientific
journals and manages collaborative scientific programs.
