Ecological Transition Week: students at the heart of the action!

Ecological Transition Week, held from March 27 to April 4 on the Écully campus, rallied the community around concrete initiatives for a more sustainable campus. Between clean-up operations, repair workshops, a shared garden and a solidarity grocery store, students got actively involved in reducing their ecological footprint, while reinforcing the values of solidarity and knowledge sharing.

The trifecta: clean, recycle, repair

The Planet&co association kicked off Ecological Transition week with a clean walkin partnership with the Ecully town hall and the Les amis du Bois de Serre association. This civic action enabled the collection of abandoned garbage while raising participants' awareness of the preservation of local biodiversity.

In parallel, agrande donnerie was set up: Centraliens students gave a second life to their unused items (crockery, sports accessories, fans, etc.) by redistributing them to other students.

To take a zero-waste approach a step further, several repair workshops were also offered: repairing household items with the FabLab, refurbishing bicycles or even an introduction to sewing to save worn-out clothes.

Biodiversity: shared knowledge and collective action

The Ecological Transition week was marked by the inauguration of the shared garden and the Grainothèque. Two initiatives committed to biodiversity and the sharing of best practices.

Equipped with a greenhouse and outdoor space, the shared garden project enables people to learn how to farm in an environmentally-friendly way. Thanks to training courses in partnership with the Grand Lyon and the réseau Le Passe-Jardins, participants discover the principles of agroecology and the benefits of collaborative gardening. This space is open to all Centrale Lyon students, as well as to local residents wishing to get involved in the project.

At the same time, engineering students presented their study project: the Grainothèque. Designed as a stand accessible to all, it enables the free and collaborative exchange of seeds. A dedicated application accompanies the scheme, referencing the varieties available, with detailed descriptions and care advice. A partnership with the lycée horticole de Dardilly will soon enrich the seed collections on offer.

Finally, this event was an opportunity to put the spotlight back on the épicerie solidaire, an initiative run by the Solidari'terre association and supported by the CROUS via the CVEC. Twice a week, it offers food and hygiene products at reduced prices for scholarship students.

The supply relies largely on the Revivre network, a committed player in the social and solidarity economy, which recovers products discarded from supermarkets for defects in appearance or from donations, but still perfectly consumable.

An initiative that is both supportive and responsible, supporting the most precarious students while actively contributing to the fight against waste.

In line with Centrale Lyon's SD&RS strategy

These student initiatives benefit from the active support of Centrale Lyon, which is fully committed through its SD&RSE Master Plan. This reference framework guides all actions carried out on campus, as well as in teaching and research activities. It sets precise objectives, such as responsible campus management, the promotion of sustainable mobility, the integration of DD&RSE into training courses, and the development of synergies between science and society for a more responsible future.
