Every year, Centrale Lyon's Commuz Club takes up a major challenge: to design, produce and stage a musical created entirely by and for the students. A veritable institution within the school, Commuz is much more than just a show: it's a human and artistic adventure involving dozens of passionate students.

A meticulously orchestrated genesis

Behind the magic of the rising curtain lies a rigorous creative process. As soon as screenwriters are recruited, some thirty themes are proposed and analyzed according to their scriptwriting and technical potential. An initial vote selects four, which are then developed into detailed scripts by the scriptwriters over the summer. In the autumn, the project leaders meet to choose the story that will give life to the Commuz of the current year.

But beyond the choice of script, each edition is an opportunity to innovate. Over the years, the team has enriched the immersive experience by integrating elements of live video and video projection, part of a dynamic of continuous evolution.

A collective, structured commitment

Organizing a show of this scale requires rigorous coordination. The Commuz operates with a four-member bureau, surrounded by an extended team of 32 extended bureau managers and 60 VPs (managers of specific poles), i.e. nearly a hundred people involved. Sound and light control, costumes, sets, staging... Every student plays a role in this great production.

To ensure the transmission of skills and guarantee a fluid organization, the club operates on a principle of partial team renewal, allowing the old to train the new. A methodology that ensures the continuity of know-how accumulated over the years.

The challenges of a landmark edition

The 2025 edition is marked by major changes. The relocation of the emlyon complexified recruitment and communication, while the change of venue required rapid adaptation. Nowhosted at the Atrium - Espace Culturel de Tassin La Demi Lune, the Commuz benefits from a larger setting, making it possible to add an additional performance and further open the event up to the general public.

Despite these challenges, the buzz remains intact. With over 1,600 spectators and enthusiastic feedback, the 2025 edition set a record for attendance.Another new feature: the testing of a homemade goodie store, enriching the spectator experience.

A springboard for the future

Beyond the show, the Commuz represents a unique formative experience for students. Project management, teamwork, conflict management, relations with external partners... The skills developed are numerous and cross-disciplinary.

Aware of the intensity of the project, the organizers have even set up a mental health charter, illustrating the subtle balance between associative commitment and academic requirements.

Every year, the Commuz pushes its limits to offer an ever more grandiose spectacle. The 2025 edition is no exception, once again testifying to the passion and ingenuity of Centrale Lyon students. See you next year for a new adventure!
