École Centrale de Lyon’s large atmospheric wind tunnel was constructed with the assistance of EDF in 1977. This wind tunnel allows atmospheric dispersion in boundary layers to be investigated on small-scale models.
The test section has the following dimensions:
- Length = 14 m.
- Width = 3.8 m.
- Height = 2 m.
Wind speed has a range of 1-10 m/s. It has a neutral stratified flow and a regulated temperature flow of +/- 0.5° C.
The following measurement techniques are possible:
- Hot-wire anemometry.
- Laser doppler anemometry (LDA).
- Particle image velocimetry (PIV).
- Concentration measurements by a flame ionisation detector (FID).
