Xavier Ottavy

CNRS Research DirectorMFAE/LMFA

After obtaing a PHD in Fluid Mechanics at École Centrale de Lyon, Xavier Ottavy became a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge at the Whittle Laboratory in partnership with Rolls Royce. By the end of 2000, he became a CNRS Researcher and joined the Turbomachines group at the Laboratory of Fluid Transfer and Acoustics (LMFA). He focuses his research on nonstationarities and instabilities in aeronautical compressors. Whilst conducting his studies, he uses « low speed » experiments as well as more consequent test benches which include more realistic machines which consume several MWatts. In 2009 he was given the responsibility of leading the CREATE project (with the ECL-B2 test bench with a HP multi-storey compressor), then in 2011 the responsibility of the PHARE-2 project (with the ECL-B3 test bench for blowing). His projects carry out experimental studies with metrological and numerical developments and are conducted with strong industrial ties.
