Training which is both well-balanced and high in skill, giving the student:
- a solid scientific and technical grounding: knowledge and rigor of thought are the fundamental means whereby a Centrale Lyon engineer solves problems, grasps complex systems and adapts to - or anticipates - rapid technological change;
- a grounding in management science: understanding the corporate environment and machinery, the Centrale Lyon engineer develops the capability to manage teams and projects in a global setting;
- an opening onto humanities: human science courses and project team-work combine with international experience to give the Centrale Lyon engineer an opening onto other cultures and ways of thinking, ready to take on corporate responsibilities.
The syllabus is designed in such a way that the training course can be personalized: teaching options as of 1st year, self-learning (with the help of new communications technologies), projects, a year out, exchanges in France or abroad, etc. Each student constructs their own program on the basis of their professional project, while conserving the general engineering dimension.
- The core syllabus covers the engineering students' first two years. This is literally the core of their training in general engineering, comprising foundation courses and advanced courses in which the fundamentals are illustrated in terms of applications or of more specialized topics. There are also two projects - one industrial and one study project - enabling the future engineer to get used to project-type operations and management. Two internships give a practical approach to the world of work and industry: an work internship at the end of the first year, and an application internship at the end of second year.
- The third year may be done either at Centrale Lyon, in another School of the Centrale Graduate School, or else in a partner-establishment in France or abroad. In this way, a foreign degree may be taken in parallel. The School offers 7 advanced options, which also usually enable a Master of Sciences' degree to be taken.
Graduates from Centrale Lyon begin their careers as project engineers, engineering experts, business engineers, engineering consultants, production, operations or logistics engineers - and move on from there to managerial functions.
31% of them start off in industry, 32% in the service sector and 21% in consultancy, with an average yearly income of €33,360.
