In 1968 the first official Franco-German partnership agreement between two universities was signed, just five years after the historic reconciliation ratified by Chancellor Adenauer and President De Gaulle.

35 years on, Centrale Lyon and the Technische Universität Darmstadt came together for a day of celebration, on the Ecully campus, during which Pr Johann-Dietrich Woerner, President of TUD, received an honorary doctorate from Jean Dorey, President of Centrale Lyon.
