Valorization and spin-off

Valorizing skill and results

The School helps its researchers valorize their results.
This includes detection and protection of spin-offs from our lab work (patent application, or - in France - depositing a so-called Soleau envelope to prove the date of a discovery), technology transfer assistance (prospecting funds and partners, market study), and company start-up.

For twenty years now, starting companies as a spin-off from lab results has been growing at an average rate of one (successful) start-up per year.
Via our research valorization subsidiary Centrale Lyon Innovation (CLI), the School gives support to new companies by taking a shareholding to ease them over the start-up period - the shares being sold back to the  founders after a suitable period.

As examples of our recent start-ups in key growth areas:

- Fluorem (fluid mechanics modeling),
- Rosatech (DNA chips)

A Scientific Center

The physical proximity between start-ups and labs is a key factor in their success; so, in 1998, the School set up the Auguste Moiroux Scientific Center, right next to the campus. Run by CLI, it harbors firms whose business is directly linked to the research going on in our laboratories.
The Scientific Center was booked out 3 months after it opened, harboring laboratory spin-offs and other companies directly linked to the labs.
